Småland’s nation is a fantastic place to hang out and work. We are a family at our nation where many opportunities are given to make new friends, gain experience in many different areas and above all to have real fun in the meantime!

In the nation, active members work in their spare time to make student life in Uppsala and in the nation as good as possible. With our trust, this wonderful crowd has had the opportunity to take advantage of the nation’s fine but above all fun ancestry since 1645!

Associsations & Culture

Under the section associations & culture you can read about offices that concern the nation’s various sub-associations such as the Linnéas Choir, Glasblåsarna and SNIF as well as the nation’s cultural offices e.g. to be responsible for our Wednesday quiz. To make it easier to find among some of our offices, we have divided the category associations & culture into four subcategories: books & paintings, music & theater and associations & culture.

Books and Paintings

The antiquarian is responsible for ensuring that the nation's antiques such as paintings and old books are in good condition and stored in a satisfactory manner. This means everything from pointing out to the other members of the nation the importance of being careful with the antiques to fixing a broken frame yourself or sending a painting to a conservator. As an antiquarian, you keep a list of these and update it if necessary. One thus leads a life both out in the nation's more visible premises and in more hidden archives and stores. It is also welcomed that the members of the nation are offered to take part in the nation's art and other cultural-historical equipment. You must also attend meetings with the archivist convention, where you meet like-minded people and safeguard the nation's interests.

The archivists are responsible for ensuring that all the nation's documents, such as meeting minutes, are archived in a satisfactory manner. The material to be archived is placed in the archivists' compartments on the curator's office, so it is important that the archivist empties this at regular intervals. The archive is taken care of with all the old archives that are there and should, if necessary, be helpful in producing material from the archive. For those interested in history, there are guaranteed to be a lot of goodies down in the archive to enjoy.

You must also attend meetings with the archivist convention, where you meet like-minded people and safeguard the nation's interests.

The librarian is responsible for caring for the nation's library and for having a loan period at least once a week. As a librarian, you are also responsible for updating the course literature before each semester and for keeping a gift book, subject catalogue, author catalogue and register of lent books. The librarian is chairman of the library committee and is thus convened for meetings with this committee. You are also responsible for ensuring that the library board's decision is implemented. The librarian must at least once a week thin out the nation's newspaper stock. Meetings with the library convention will also be attended and the interests of the nation will be safeguarded there. The publications for sale nationwide are provided by the librarian. As a librarian, it is good if you have organizational ability and preferably a great interest in literature.

The members of the library board are tasked with deciding on the purchase of books and subscriptions to newspapers and magazines. It is also the task of the library board to establish lending rules. Under the guidance of the librarian, who is chairman of the library committee, other tasks such as cataloguing and thinning out books may also occur. As a member of the library board, you should be interested in books and it is good if you are tidy as you may need to fix books or make so-called bookcases to be able to preserve the books in a good way.

Music and Theater

The choir representatives are responsible for the nation's choir activities. The choirs perform frequently at the nation's parties and other events and also organize their own concerts and similar events. Together with other members of the choir, the choir representatives also usually organize parties and fika, they are the choir's closest contact with the rest of the nation. You must also attend meetings with the choir convention, where you meet like-minded people and safeguard the nation's interests. As a choir representative, you should have an interest in singing in a choir and in addition to participating in rehearsals and convention meetings, you must have a little extra time to plan activities and performances.

The conductor is the nation's orchestra Glasblåserna's leader. They convene the orchestra for rehearsals and are also responsible for the care of musicals and instruments and for keeping records of lending of the instruments. Glasblåserna appear frequently at the nation's parties as well as at other events in Småland or other nations. You must also attend meetings with the orchestra convention, where you meet like-minded people and safeguard the nation's interests. As a conductor, you should have an interest in making music and you should be able to set aside time for rehearsals and convention meetings as well as for the events in which the orchestra participates.

Being a theater leader means leading the nation's theater group. It can be anything from improvisation exercises to sets of plays or musicals. In consultation with the curators, they are responsible for ensuring that there is entertainment for gasques and other festive events in the nation. As a theater leader, you are responsible for leading the nation's troupe in the Battle of Lake Vättern. Meetings with the theater convention must also be attended, and the interests of the nation must be safeguarded there. As a theater director, it is positive if you are fond of being in the center and if you think it is fun to write and perform spex.

Associations and Culture

The quiz masters are the two people responsible for the nation's Wednesday quiz. You are responsible for putting together a quiz of a suitable degree of difficulty and then hold this in the nation's pub Hyttan, on Wednesday evenings. They ensure that there are pencils and quiz forms for all participating teams. They also keep a statistic of participating teams' points over the semester. As a quizmaster, you should thrive in the spotlight, and it's good if you are a little quirky.

The sports leaders are responsible for the nation's sports and exercise activities. It is also the sports leaders who register the nation as participants in upcoming competitions. As a sports leader, you are also responsible for maintaining the nation's sports equipment. In other respects, you have relatively free hands when it comes to which sports activities you choose to invest in in the nation. As a sports leader, you should have an interest in sports and preferably many of your own ideas about what and how the sports activities in the nation can look like.


Marketing & Communication

Here under marketing & communication, you can read about positions that concern the nation’s marketing and communication towards Uppsala’s students, such as PR, photographer and editor for our nation newspaper Rasken.

The PR manager is responsible for making posters for all the nation's events and for these to be set up around the city. If you have better ideas for marketing the nation than just posting, you can fulfill those. It is important that you as a PR manager are out well in advance of the various events as the competition between nations can often be great As a PR manager, you must also be able to assist the nation's committees, officials and sub-associations in their PR activities. As a PR manager, you should have a structural ability, and preferably a touch of aesthetic feeling.

The editors are responsible for the publication of the nation's newspaper Rasken. The magazine contains the invitation to the nation's landskap and it is the editors' responsibility to ensure that the magazine is with the members for a statutory period before the landskap. As an editor, you have relatively free hands in the design of the magazine and you decide together with the first curator what is to be published.

The editors compile the entire magazine, which can be relatively time-consuming. It is the editors' responsibility to ensure that the costs of the national newspaper are covered by advertising revenue as far as possible. You must also attend meetings with the newspaper convention, where you meet like-minded people and safeguard the nation's interests. As an editor, you should like to sit in front of the computer a lot and work with the layout. The time you as an editor spend on the magazine is often concentrated on the weeks before publication. It is good that you are prepared for this.

The photographer is not entirely unexpectedly the one who, through photographs, documents what is happening in the nation. No later than two weeks after a major event in the nation, the photographer must ensure that the other nation members can take part in the pictures on the nation's website and also preferably via a board in the nation's hall. To make it easier to attend the parties, you as a photographer go to a reduced price at these. The other big part of the photography job is to photograph the nation's officials at the beginning of each semester and present them on an active member board that is set up in the nation's hall. It is an advantage if you as a photographer have an interest in the noble art of photography.

IT responsibles are responsible for caring for the nation's computers and IT. This should also be helpful to other officials if problems arise when using the nation's computers. The IT manager is responsible for ensuring that backup of data takes place continuously and that original diskettes, disks and backups are stored in a good way. The IT manager is also happy to take his own initiatives for suggestions for improvements in his area. As an IT manager, you should have good computer skills.


New Students

Recceverksamhet & nomination committee includes positions for you who want to work with the nation’s new members such as recce chairman and international secretary.

Recceverksamhet

The recentiors hosts, commonly called recce hosts, are those who receive new students (recentiors or reccar) who come and want to enrol in the nation. When the reccars come to enrol, it is the task of the recce hosts to ensure that they receive their term bill and to give them the information they need about the nation, the university and Uppsala. As a recce host, you are responsible for enrolling the new students in the nation and keeping a list of them. You will also be their contact person for the nation. In addition, together with the curators and the international secretaries, the recentior reception, which is colloquially called the recce reception, must be organized, as well as participate in the preparations for and implementation of the recentior gasquen, also called the reccegasquen. Meetings with the recent convention should also be attended and the interests of the nation safeguarded there. Social contact is important in the exercise of office when one is receptive. Creativity is also something that is good to possess, as activities must be planned for the reccar

The international secretaries receive new exchange students who come to the nation and ensure that they receive the information they need about the nation, the international convention, the university and Uppsala. As an international secretary, you are the exchange students' contact person for the nation. In addition, together with the curators and recentiors hosts, organize the recentior reception and participate in the preparations for and implementation of the recentior gasquen. Meetings with the international convention must also be attended, and the interests of the nation must be safeguarded there. Social contact is important in the exercise of office when you are an international secretary. Creativity is also something that is good to possess, as activities must be planned for the international students.


Restaurant, Parties and Traditions

At the nation you can work in the pub on weekday evenings, at Fredaglyxen on Fridays or at fikaon Saturdays. In the nation’s restaurant business, you get to learn everything from mixing cocktails, pouring beer, making sandwich-cakes to flipping burgers, baking cakes and making slices! Big Clubwork

As a club worker, you conduct the pub activities in the national pub Hyttan under the instructions of the third curator and kitchen master. You work about two evenings a week. As a club worker, you stand in the pub and take orders for food and drink, in addition you serve food and from time to time you work with cooking the food in the kitchen. As a club worker, you are also responsible for ensuring that there is enough staff in the pub every night. In addition to the pub business, as a club worker you also run the party business under the leadership of the third curator and head waiter. There are five to six regular parties per semester and in addition there are other events that are in the club worker's office to serve at. At the parties, the club worker are responsible for setting the table, serving and cleaning. Sometimes you even help the chef in the kitchen. Being a club worker takes a lot of time, but you also get a lot back in the form of social contact and experience of serving at dinners and standing in a pub.

The fika hosts make sure that you can come to the nation every Saturday and have fika. In consultation with the kitchen master and the third curator, the fika hosts decide which range is to be available for sale. As a fika host, you are responsible for preparing for Saturdays and making sure that there are staff both for these preparations and for the sales themselves. The fika hosts are responsible for, according to the chef's instructions, cleaning the kitchen after every Saturday coffee. Enjoying baking, creating menus and being service-oriented are good qualities for being a fika host.

As a Friday luxury host, or short Flyx host, you organize, under the instructions of the third curator, the Friday luxury every Friday between 15 and 18. The Flyx hosts composes the menu in consultation with the chef and also works on the flyx and is responsible for having enough staff at every event. The flyx hosts are also the ones that stand in the kitchen during the Flyx. As a Flyx host, you should be interested in planning and cooking with a luxurious touch. It should also be possible to dedicate most Friday afternoons to the performance of one's duties.

Head waiter

The head waiter is responsible for the satisfactory implementation of the nation's gasques. You are the responsible alcohol server for the evening and are the one who leads the staff. Every week, a stock inventory must be made together with the third curator. At least once per semester, the nation's tableware, glasses and cutlery must also be inventoried. As a head waiter, you should be organizational and a good leader.

The rental master, together with the third curator, are responsible for planning all rentals. As a rental master, you work as a head waiter during the rentals. You are also responsible for ensuring that there is enough staff for each rental. After each rental, you must provide accounting documents and invoicing documents to the second curator. Together with the nation's head waiter, the nation's tableware, glasses and cutlery must be inventoried at least once per semester. As a rental master, you should be organizational, but also service-oriented and a good leader.

As a club master, you are responsible during the evenings when there is a club at Smålands. The club master is the one who is the responsible alcohol server and takes care of the staff during the evening. It is also the club master's responsibility to call in staff to work during the club sessions - a golden opportunity to create your dream team for every occasion.

As a sex master, you are a bit of Småland's own party fixer. You plan and organize in consultation with the curators the nation's various internal parties - the sexas. It's everything from official kickoffs and club work parties to taking care of friends' guests during the Spring Ball weekend. How you choose to design the parties is very much up to you and you will, of course, have the help of the other guests during the evening. A sexa master should be enterprising, responsible and like to have a party.

Gasque

It is the gasque master's task to give Småland's gasques that little bit extra. The gasque master decides the theme for the different gasques, arranges decorations and table setting, is responsible for entertainment and can make requests regarding food and drinks.

The song leader has the task of leading the song at the nation's gasques. These are about five to six each semester. The song leader produces a songbook and decides for themselves which songs to include at each party. Since the song leader must attend all parties during their year of office, they go for a reduced price. At some parties, it is the practice for the song leader to write their own song, for example for the spring ball. As a song leader, you should like to take notes. However, it is not a requirement that you are a beautiful singer. You should also like to stand in the spotlight a little enough. The time required for the exercise of office depends on the level of ambition. In addition to the gasque night, a songbook will be put together and printed, something that often takes a little longer than you might have expected.

The historian writes in the nation's newspaper Rasken about what happened at the nation's gasques and balles. It therefore presupposes that you have been to the party in question and to be able to attend more easily, you go as a historian at the gasques at a reduced price. As soon as possible after the current party, an article about this will be written and sent to the nation's editors, but absolutely no later than the deadline for the next issue. In connection with the winter gasque, it is welcome that the historiographer writes Mörkhultskuriren, the nation's own gossip magazine, and distributes it. After their year as a historiographer, they will also write a chronicle for the whole year, which will then be published in the nation's peer association's yearbook Natio Smolandica.

Ceremony

The flag bearers, dressed in academic formal attire, carry the nation's flag on the occasions when it is expected to be worn. It can be, for example, at various solemn events at the university, such as doctoral dissertations and recentiorsgasque, at honorary members' funerals or when the nation members visit the nation's most important graves on All Saints' Day. It is also the responsibility of the flag bearers that the flag is cared for in a satisfactory manner, which is very important as the flag is very old and worn. This can mean that you actually need to pick up a needle and thread and fix it if you have that competence. As a flag bearer, you must also attend meetings with the flag bearers' convention, where you meet like-minded people and safeguard the nation's interests.

The marshal represents the nation wearing academic formal attire on various occasions such as solemn events at the university, such as doctoral dissertations and recentiorsgasque. On these occasions, people are shown to their seats in the university hall. You must also attend meetings with the Marshal Convention, where you meet like-minded people and safeguard the nation's interests. As a marshal, you should be student-minded and thrive in formal attire.


Boards & Committees

In Smålands, there are a large number of boards and committees that work with very different things. If you want to influence the nation in the longer term, the Nation Board or the Property Board can be something for you. Maybe you want to work with recruitment? Then work in the Election Board can give you valuable experience. Or why not become part of one of the nation’s most important activities by taking a position on a scholarship committee?

Election Board

The Chairman of the Election Board receives proposals from other members for suitable candidates for vacant positions of office, participates in interviews with candidates for certain positions and has ongoing meetings and discussions with the election board before the landskap. The Chairman of the election board also leads the election board's work and presents the election board's proposals and reads the election board's motivations in the landskap. The chairman should have a good overview of both the nation's offices and members.

As a member of the Election Board, you receive proposals from other members for suitable candidates for vacant offices, participate in interviews with candidates for certain positions and have ongoing meetings and discussions with the Nomination Committee for all provinces. One should have a good overview of both the nation's offices and members.

Nation Board

The chairman of the landskap and nation board shall convene meetings with the nation board and establish its agenda. As chairman, they leads the negotiations of the landskap, the election meeting (the meeting held before the election of a new inspector) and the nation board. It must also be ensured that the issues before the landscape and the nation board's meetings are prepared. In addition, the decisions made at the landskap and the nation board's meetings must be recorded and systematized. As chairman, you should be structured and enjoy sitting in meetings.

The secretary's task is to keep minutes of the landskap, the election meetings (the meeting held before the election of a new inspector) and the nation board's deliberations and decisions. The minutes must be completed no later than two weeks after the meeting. As a secretary, you must also be able to issue minutes of minutes on behalf of a member. It is also the secretary's task to post minutes of the landskap, the election meeting and the national board's deliberations and decisions. As a secretary, it is good if you like sitting in meetings and are structured.

As a member of the nation board, you work with everything that the nation's board can conceivably work with, such as budget work, official job description revisions or the purchase of equipment and technical equipment. As a member of the nation board, you can also be part of the board's finance committee, which is the group that prepares financial issues for board meetings.

Property Board

The members of the property board meet together with the treasurer, the executive member and second curator. The committee is responsible for managing the nation's property. The secretary's task is to keep minutes of the property board's deliberations and decisions. The minutes must be completed no later than two weeks after the meeting. As a secretary, it is good if you like sitting in meetings and are structured.

Scholarship Board

The scholarship secretary acts as the First Curator's right hand when it comes to scholarship management in the nation. He participates in all scholarship committee meetings and is the First Curator to assist in the handling of scholarship applications and the announcement of scholarships. You must also attend meetings with the scholarship convention, where you meet like-minded people and safeguard the nation's interests. As a scholarship secretary, you should be prepared to spend some time on scholarship management. Often this time is relatively concentrated around the time of receipt of the applications. You should also enjoy working in the computer program excel and counting a lot.

The members of the scholarship committees are responsible for appointing and in some cases preparing current scholarships for the committee under the direction of the first curator and the scholarship secretary. There are three different scholarship committees in the nation: the general scholarship committee, CG & C Cervin's scholarship committee and Anna Maria Lundin's scholarship committee. The members must attend the meetings of the relevant committee. The different committees have different numbers of meetings each semester, but there are rarely more than three.

The members of Anna Maria Lundin's scholarship committee (AML) appoint travel scholarships for doctoral students under the guidance of an inspector and first curator. The committee has one meeting per semester. As a member of AML, you should be well acquainted with how the doctoral students' work works, ie preferably be a teacher, senior lecturer or professor at the university.
